The Tri-County Maryland Alumnae Chapter (TCMDAC) Scholarship

Scholarship Background: 
The Tri-County Maryland Alumnae Chapter (TCMDAC) was chartered on March 27, 2011.  In support of educational development and academic excellence, TCMDAC offers the Elvear B. Johnson (Ph.D.) Scholarship in memory of Dr. Johnson.  Dr. Johnson was one of the original members of the TCMDAC’s chartering team who passed away prior to the completion of the charter.

The honoree of our scholarship, Dr. Johnson graduated from Howard University in 1961 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry.  She joined her beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.  In 1975 Dr. Johnson received a M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, a Master in Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1981 from the University of Maryland, and received her Doctorate of Philosophy from George Mason University in 2002.  From Dr. Johnson’s passion and commitment to education and academic excellence, this scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior residing in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s County who plans to study in the areas of Education, Liberal Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math.

SMECO (Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative) Scholarship

Four students from the local area will be chosen and can receive a $1500 scholarship bases on scholastic achievement, financial need and community and school involvement. 

GUIDELINES:
1. Students who are graduating high school seniors who live with parents or guardians who are SMECO customers.
2. Proof of residence, such as copy of students drivers license or school ID must accompnay student app.
3. Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in a colle or university. A copy of the letter of acceptance whould accompany app.
4. Students  must complete a scholarship app. The forms may be downloaded HERE or you may pick one up in Guidance.
5.
 Students must enclose a copy of the Student Aid Report from the US Dept of Education (from the FAFSA) AND a copy of the first 2 pages of the completed 2014 Federal Tax Return
6. Students must submit an essay on the topic: "Why is A College Education Important to Completing My Lifetime Goals?"  Essay should be typed, doubled spaced, and on 8 1/2 x 11 inch page.
7. All applicants must provide a minimum of two letters of reference. Letters may be from school administrators or teachers, clergy, and civic or business leaders. Letters may not be from family memebers.
8. Must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of senior year. Please provide a copy of their official high school transcript, first semester grades, SAT or ACT scores and class rank.
9. Scholarships are awarded based on the following: Scholastic Achiement-40%, Financial Need-50% Interview, School Involvement and Community Involvement-10%

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, 2018

The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.
Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.

Eligibility: 

Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier CGS.
To be considered for a Vanier CGS, you must:
·       Be nominated by only one Canadian institution, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota;
·       Be pursuing your first doctoral degree (including joint undergraduate/graduate research program such as MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, and JD/PhD – if it has a demonstrated and significant research component). Note that only the PhD portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
·       Intend to pursue, in the summer semester or the academic year following the announcement of results, full-time doctoral (or a joint graduate program such as: MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) studies and research at the nominating institution; Note that only the PhD portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
·       Not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2018 (see calculating months of doctoral studies below);
·       Have achieved a first-class average, as determined by your institution, in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent. Candidates are encouraged to contact the institution for its definition of a first-class average, and
·       Must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.

Maryland Farm Bureau Scholarship

Maryland Farm Bureau 2017 Scholarship Application Deadline February 1, 2017 The Maryland Farm Bureau will offer five $2,000 scholarships. Applicants must be high school seniors starting college in the fall of 2017 or full time college students at any community college or four-year institution. Applicants or their parents/guardians MUST be members of Maryland Farm Bureau. Three of the scholarships will be offered to agricultural curriculum majors and two scholarships will be offered to non-agricultural or agricultural curriculum majors. Selection will be made by a committee designated by Maryland Farm Bureau.

 To apply, students must return the attached application form with a current photo (which will be used in a recognition program and a press release recipient announcement as well as on the Farm Bureau webpage) and an essay on: “BEYOND THE FOOD YOU EAT, HOW DOES AGRICULTURE IMPACT YOUR DAILY LIFE?” 

Essay should be limited to 2 pages, typed, 12 point font, double spaced with normal margins. (NO identifying information! For example, no college names, no 4-H club names, no town or county names, etc.) Any identifying information appearing in the essay will disqualify the application. The selection committee will evaluate each essay anonymously. No student can receive this scholarship more than four times.

 Maryland Farm Bureau MUST receive applications and photos by 4:00pm February 1. .
Applications and photos should be emailed to Scholarship@mdfarmbureau.com, a confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of the scholarship application. Scholarships will be awarded to winning applicants in conjunction with High School graduation programs or prior to the beginning of the fall semester. The winner’s scholarship check will be made out to the student and the college. The committee reserves the right to interview scholarship applicants if they feel it necessary for determination of winners. Family members of MFB Staff and Officers are ineligible.

Brief description:

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a master’s degree programme at Leiden University starting September 2017 or February 2018.

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship program has 3 awards:

The LExS is only valid for the period the student is registered at Leiden University as a full time student within the time frame of the study program.

Eligibility:

·        Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree program starting September 2017 or February 2018.
·        In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the program for which the student wishes to enroll. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant program followed abroad.
·        The applicant will hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans.
·        Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s degree with the exception of students applying for a Master program for which a specified previous Master program or work experience is mandatory (the LLM advanced masters qualify as such).
·        Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the Rules and Regulations attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

·        Your program starts in the academic year 2018/2019;

·        You have not graduated from a UT graduate program;
·        You comply with the conditions for obtaining an entry visa in the Netherlands (if applicable).

·        You are not eligible for a Dutch study grant;
·        The University Twente Scholarship is a scholarship for excellent students. Typically this means that you belong to the best 5 to 10 percent of your class.

OFID Scholarship Award for International Students

Brief Description:

OFID awards its scholarships to qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree.
Applicants must be from a developing country (except OFID Member Countries), and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, from any recognized university/college in the world.
