SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY ABROAD - ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAMS
Experience a new world and expand your horizons – Study abroad in High School. The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs offers full scholarships to high school students to study abroad for one academic year. International exchange programs give you the opportunity to establish long-lasting ties with people around the globe, promote mutual understanding, learn a new language, and develop global leadership skills. The KENNEDY-LUGAR YOUTH EXCHANGE AND STUDY ABROAD (YES ABROAD) was launched in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 to advance mutual understanding between the United States and countries with significant Muslim populations. YES Abroad provides full scholarshipsto American students (ages 15-18) to live with a host family and study in local high schools for one academic year in countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Balkans.

Initiated in 1983, the CONGRESS BUNDESTAG YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM (CBYX) was created to strengthen ties between Germany and the United States. CBYX offers full scholarships for high school students (ages 15-18), vocational studies graduates (age 18), and young professionals (undergrads ages 18-24). Students spend an academic year in Germany living with a host family and attending a German high school or participating in practical internships (Vocational and young professional students).

The NATIONAL SECURITY LANGUAGE INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH (NSLI-Y) is part of a multi-agency U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to better engage with the world through language. NSLI-Y offers full scholarships to high school students to live abroad with a host family while pursuing intensive language study of Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajik), Russian, and Turkish. Previous language study is not required.
