Esperanza Education Fund Scholarship

Deadline: March 30

the Esperanza Education Fund.  In 2018, the Esperanza Education Fund will again award scholarships of at least $5000 and up to $20,000 to immigrant students and students who have two immigrant parents in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to attend public colleges and universities.  Students are eligible for the scholarship regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status. For more information about the scholarship and to read more about our current scholars, please visit www.esperanzafund.org.

The scholarship application is now available and can be accessed through http://www.esperanzafund.org/about-our-scholarship/.  The application process is entirely electronic, and all applications are due on March 30.

American Society of Military Comptrollers ASMC Scholarship

American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Southern Maryland Chapter is awarding a scholarship to seniors in the southern Maryland area.

The following scholarships are given:

One $3,000

Four for $2,000

Four for $1,000

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be an outstanding high school student in Calvert County

2. Applicant must be in the final half of his/her senior year

3.Applicant must be entering a field of study directly related to business or financial management, business admin, economics, public administration, accounting, or related areas of study.

4. Applicant must have letter of acceptance or intention from perspective college they have applied to.

5. Applicant must have at least three letters of recommendation. Two must be from faculty members at their school, one of which must be their principal or guidance counselor. 

6. Applicant must agree to participate in a brief interview with ASMC committee if asked.

Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Community Associations Institute Scholarship

Rules

The WMCCAI Essay Contest is open to all high-school seniors within the WMCCAI service area (the immediate Washington metro area) living within a community (i.e., a neighborhood, homeowners association, condominium association, or cooperative association).

Requirements

a.     A 500-700 word essay on “How Do You See Your Community Best Utilizing Social Media?” Describe ways to implement social media in your community to tell a compelling story of a great place to live.  Include the potential pros and cons of using social media. Your community would include your neighborhood, homeowners association, condominium, or cooperative association.

                                          i.    The essay must be submitted in Word format and include a word count.

                                         ii.    Include contact information on the essay in case it becomes separated from the application form.

b.     A completed contest application

c.     A grade point average of 2.5 or higher

d.     A high school transcript

e.     A letter of recommendation from a school counselor or community association leader in the community where you reside.

f.      All applicants must submit a fully completed application form and all necessary statements, documents and references no later than March 31, 2018. Mail entries to WMCCAI, 7600 Leesburg Pike, Suite 100 West, Falls Church, VA 22043, Attn: Scholarship Program. It must be postmarked by the deadline to be considered. Email applications are acceptable if submitted by the deadline and the original documents are received within 4 business days of the above stated deadline; additional information submitted with the hard copy of an emailed application will not be considered. Email applications must be sent to outreach@caidc.org.

Judging Criteria

Judges will base their final decision upon:

Best overall essay/presentation of the essay topic: How Do You See Your Community Best Utilizing Social Media?”

a.     Identification of the applicant’s community association within the essay.

b.     Applicant’s demonstration of knowledge of what a community association is and how it benefits the community and residents.

Award

WMCCAI will grant one award of at least $1,000 for the best overall essay. The award winner will be announced within 60 days after the application deadline.

Hamilton Relay

Eligibility Criteria

•               Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or has difficulty speaking.

•               Applicant must be a resident of one of the following states: CA, DC, GA, ID, IA, KS, LA, ME, MD, MA, MT, NM, NV, PA, RI, TN, UT or VA. 

•               Applicant must complete and submit application, essay, signed talent release form and letter of recommendation to be eligible.

•               Scholarship will be awarded to the selected applicant in each state after the Hamilton Relay Scholarship Committee reviews all applications submitted on or before the posted deadline.

Guidelines for Hamilton Relay Scholarship

1.            Application packet must be completed and postmarked by March 1, 2018 and must include all of the following items:

a.    Scholarship Application

b.    Letter of Recommendation from faculty staff member at high school or from employer

c.     One page essay as required (topic assigned on application)

d.    Signed Talent Release Form

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship

Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors from sponsoring locations who plan to continue their education in an engineering program at a four-year college or university school of engineering. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university in an approved engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics program. Print our brochure.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship Management Services is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars Program must meet all of the following:

• Be United States citizen
• Be graduating seniors of a public or accredited private high school in a sponsoring location
• Must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics program
• Have a minimum composite SAT score of 1700 or ACT score of 27 (initial application only)
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 (unweighted) in grades 9-12 (initial application only)
• May not be a recipient of any other Northrop Grumman Scholarship.

Application Process

• Start by clicking on the Register to Apply link at the bottom of this page. You will need to read and agree to a consent statement, supply a unique and valid email address, and create a username and password.
  • Correspondence throughout the application process will be by email and US postal mail. E-mail messages will be sent to the username and email address registered when you created your account. Students failing to use a valid active email account that will accommodate bulk mail may not receive consideration. Be sure to add ngengineering@scholarshipamerica.org to your contacts or address book and check your email regularly!
• You are now able to log into the application.
• Complete the application by entering data in the format described. Proper punctuation and standard capitalization (Jill Smith, 10 Main Street, New York, NY) must be used.
• During the application process, you may leave the site prior to submission by clicking on the Save and Log outlink located on each application page. To return to the application, you must login using your username and password.
• Once all application requirements are satisfied, the "Lock and Submit Application" button will be available to you near the bottom of the Review Application page.
  • Carefully review your entire application before clicking the Lock and Submit Application button.
  • Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible.
  • Applications must be submitted electronically (and any other required documents must be mailed to Scholarship Management Services) by the application deadline in order for your application to be processed.
  • After the application is successfully submitted, no further additions or changes can be made. You will no longer have access to your application account or data.
  • We recommend that you print a hard copy of your application for your records. Do not send a printed copy to Scholarship Management Services.
  • Scholarship Management Services will email acknowledgment of receipt of all submitted applications.

Required Documents

As part of your application, you must also mail the following documents to Scholarship Management Services by Feb 4.

1. A current, complete official transcript of grades and the completed Academic Record Form.
2. Three (3) letters of recommendation. One from Principal or Head of Math or Science Department and two from a teacher, employer or community leader.

Your application is not complete until all materials are received at Scholarship Management Services. Write the applicants name and registration ID number on each page. Mail all required materials in one envelope postmarked by the application deadline of  February 4, 2016 to the mailing address provided below.

SMECO

SMECO (Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative) Scholarship

Deadline: April 3
Four students from the local area will be chosen and can receive a $1500 scholarship bases on scholastic achievement, financial need and community and school involvement. 

GUIDELINES:
1. Students who are graduating high school seniors who live with parents or guardians who are SMECO customers.
2. Proof of residence, such as copy of students drivers license or school ID must accompnay student app.
3. Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in a colle or university. A copy of the letter of acceptance whould accompany app.
4. Students  must complete a scholarship app. The forms may be downloaded HERE or you may pick one up in Guidance.
5.
 Students must enclose a copy of the Student Aid Report from the US Dept of Education (from the FAFSA) AND a copy of the first 2 pages of the completed 2014 Federal Tax Return
6. Students must submit an essay on the topic: "Why is A College Education Important to Completing My Lifetime Goals?"  Essay should be typed, doubled spaced, and on 8 1/2 x 11 inch page.
7. All applicants must provide a minimum of two letters of reference. Letters may be from school administrators or teachers, clergy, and civic or business leaders. Letters may not be from family memebers.
8. Must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of senior year. Please provide a copy of their official high school transcript, first semester grades, SAT or ACT scores and class rank.
9. Scholarships are awarded based on the following: Scholastic Achiement-40%, Financial Need-50% Interview, School Involvement and Community Involvement-10%
